Looking for a Light L16 community? One where you get to participate? Well you've found it!
I'm like a kid in a candy shop when it comes to lightRumors (and of course the Light L16!).
And I hope you are too!
Last week, I was listening to podcast and it changed my outlook on many things including the direction of this site, and it was confirmed again this morning while listening to another episode of that podcast while on my walk.
When I started lightRumors a mere two months ago, I had some ideas about where I wanted it to go, but I think I've figured it out. My first thought was to make the site be like my old site planet5D and be mainly a news curation platform for computational imaging and the light L16.
But what I keep hearing is that the most important thing to do is to build a Light L16 community where people feel they can participate. And this morning's podcast confirmed that.
So I spent the weekend busting my tail creating every possible option for a community and learning about tools to make those things work better. And being an old computer programmer, it was actually a ton of fun for me. I geek out on this stuff LOL.
And so, as of today, the new lightRumors community is open! (Tho it still needs plenty of work – and lots of support from you if you're up to it!)
And it is FREE!
AND!!!! I just checked to see if anyone had been poking around and in fact, we have our first community member!
Welcome Shankar Narayan!
I still have plenty of work to do but if you come in and look around you'll see where I think it's going. And, you can join!
So, what's the plan? Well, eventually there will be a paid section – but the vast majority of the content will be free and open to community members.
My original plan was to create great free content but also to sell training and ebooks about this amazing new paradigm shift for photography that Light is working on. But that podcast changed my mind because frankly, and you may have heard this before, but “the money is in the list.”
Let's be realistic, I'm building the site for several reasons. First, I'm really excited about where the Light L16 is going to take the photo community. Second, I love sharing what I am learning with people and helping them grow. And third, well I have to feed my family like everyone else – so I have to make money.
And so, if I can help people and make money while sharing my passion, then that's the holy grail right?
So, if I can grow my list by building a vibrant community around the Light L16 and be able to help vendors reach new customers as well as helping the community, then it is like the best of both worlds right?
Of course, I'll still be the guy in charge of the community, but I do want you to participate and to let me know what you like and what you don't. I'm always open to new creative ideas! Feel free to write me any time. I'm right here 🙂
p.s. if you're dying to know about the podcast from last week, it was Jaime Masters' Eventual Millionaire podcast – episode with Kirk Du Plessis where he talks about building his community to over 50,000 members! Yes! Wouldn't that be amazing????
